get a tan/don’t tan

26 Apr

I can’t get tanned. I just can’t. My skin will never get golden on its own. At best, I’ll freckle so much that they’ll combine to turn me into one big freckle and nobody wants that.

Even still, I would sit out each summer, oil on my legs and watch as my friends got dark and I got burned. Not fair! Tans are great. They make you appear thinner and healthy and bronzed skin just looks amazing against white clothes in the summer. I wanted a tan. So I bought one.

There are a lot of self tanners on the market. I tried the Jergens gradual stuff, but that’s not instant gratification so, for me, it’s a waste of cash. I want a tan and I want it now!

After trying a bunch of brands, I’ve settled on L’oreal Sublime Bronze. Here’s why:

1. It’s easy to apply – since the product is a little tinted, you can see where it goes and avoid patches or streaking

2. It doesn’t smell so bad – OK all self tanners are going to reek a bit. My advice: apply at night, let it dry, go to bed and shower off in the morning.

3. It’s affordable – about $15 a pop

4. You won’t look orange – for a drugstore brand it’s surprisingly well formulated.

You’ll see a difference right away and if you want it to be a bit darker, just re-apply the next night and so on until you’re happy with the base.

As for the product itself, there aren’t any parabens (you know I hate parabens) but self tanner isn’t the best thing to put on your skin. But, you know what’s worse, skin cancer. So, there ya go.

Guys, it really works. Promise.
