I’ve been told that I’m really late to the party with this guy but whatever, it took me some time but I’ve finally discovered Phosphorescent.
It’s just one dude, Matthew Houck, who began putting out records under the name Phosphorescent in 2003. Four albums, one EP and a tribute to Willie Nelson later, we get Muchacho, a hauntingly cool record that begins with an Invocation (invitation) and ends with a Koan (exit). It’s not often I fall in love enough with an album to play it over and over but I have even gone running to Muchacho (it’s mellow! Not exactly workout tunes).
I don’t know which track is my favourite yet; I go back and forth on what I like best. All I know is there isn’t one song I skip over, so that’s a good sign of a great album.
PS – I owe it to the Simcoe Stopover for the introduction.
