The lovely Lia took me on a quick road trip up to her family’s farm in Erin, ON on Monday. Her Dad raises horses (!!!) and her parents are both equally awesome so I was crazy excited to get up there and check out the place I’d heard so much about.
On the way, we stopped at Lia’s favourite antique market. I can’t tell you where it is – top secret – but I can tell you that it was AWESOME. I bought maybe too much stuff and even grabbed a couple finds for BYOB. Click here for some of Lia’s pictures from the market:
Then we hit the farm.
uh huh. Baby horses!
So cute. A little intimidating when you step on the field and they all come towards you. Me to Lia: “Are they supposed to do that?”
We also got nicked a little bit. Meh. Love bites.
Expanding my whispering abilities to horses. My hair was epic feathery that day. Blame it on the rain.
Lia was much more relaxed. The little boy horse got a boner for her. Literally. It was uncomfortable. HAGH
Literally surrounded by beautiful horses. It was so dreamy. After our walk on the property, we sat in Lia’s Mom’s kitchen, drank tea and watched the horses running around in the field. Mom’s always give the best advice and, not surprisingly, I wound up pouring my heart out to Mrs. Parsley (I no longer wonder where Lia gets her good advice sensibility). One of the things she said really hit home for me so I’m going to share it here.
We were talking about competition (specifically in the fields of writing and building websites) and how it’s so hard to differentiate yourself from the multitudes. The answer? Don’t pay attention to any of it. Know your competition, but don’t watch them so closely that you discourage yourself. Do what feels right for you, regardless of what anyone else was doing. Very reminiscent of something Wayne Dyer (haha – obsessed) said which is “Be independent of the good opinions of others.” Anyway. Powerful stuff.
I’ll post about my vintage finds soon. Redecorating time!
