I forgot to say I was going to Newfoundland and then I up and went and now, am back.
The plan was to photo document the entire thing but I left my camera charger sitting on the kitchen counter so there’s really nothing but these couple of pics.
Highlights:
Showing J my home and watching my family fall in love with him (great minds)
Hangs with Nanny and Poppy – the two best people on the planet
Waltzing with my little brother to an Irish ballad
Feeding the ducks at Bowring park with my beloved Isolde and darling Maeva
Waking up in the morning to both my parents beam smiling at me. I’m forever a little girl in their eyes and it’s the best feeling. Ever.
Lowlights:
Losing my Catbird gold band ring (it really was just a matter of time)
Losing another, equally dear to me ring (note to self: don’t wear rings on left hand)
Getting a weird eye infection in BOTH eyes and having to wear glasses. Worst.
Leaving. Never really gets any less difficult to say goodbye.
Greeted at the airport by Wills with my St. John’s Essentials care package. Amazing. (psst check out my right hand – yup. both those rings are gonzo. ffs). Save your busted face comments (and by comments I mean what you are thinking in your head right now) because this was late at night and I take valium to fly, k? I will give you weird hair colour thoughts though. Totally a lighting issue and not actually what’s going on north of my forehead. Promise.
Essentials package contents: Partridgeberry cake, Quintana’s Chips and Salsa, Georgetown bagels and hummus, Purity Ginger Snaps, Empire Theatre movie money, a gift certificate to Ches’s and a Hey Rosetta CD. Oh yah, annnnnd:
William Bradley don’t think for one second I have forgotten that only about 15 minutes of this service was redeemed. I’m keeping the other hour and forty-five minutes for the day after our sister’s wedding. heh heh. (this hangover’s not going to butler itself)
The Osprey Room at The Beach House. Where J and I stayed for a treat. Also had a pretty decent dins at Atlantica. Highly recommend both if you’re visiting the island. The view alone is worth it. Basically complete privacy between you and the sea (and the occasional ferry crossing the bay but you don’t mind that). After dinner we ordered two glasses of Oban to the room and watched Fight For Your Right: Revisited. Totally romantic.
Weather was typical: one day gorgeous, next day sleet/snow/rain and freezing. This was one of the latter but a boy’s gotta see his St. John’s landmarks!
She makes me crazy to the point of tantrums and yet I love her more than life. Mudders. Go figure.
And finally the most beautiful thing in Newfoundland since May 1, 2009. She said my name (sounded like “Ashen”) and pretended like she remembered visiting me last year (me: “Remember coming to Toronto, Maeva?” maeva: “Yes. OK.”).
Other St. John’s spotted and approved:
Rocket: Nothing could ever replace Auntie Crae’s in my heart but Rocket is making the loss a lot easier. They sell Ruffino coffee (same as BOYB!), have delicious lunch eats and big communal tables to eat at.
Chinched Bistro: Fairly new to the downtown core, we ate an amazing dinner here. Service was spectacular and inside was surprisingly cosy for being right dowtown.
The Boobie Trap: It was about time St. John’s got a proper lady underwear store. I fell in love with so much here – Commando briefs and recycled silk panties, in particular. Such a gem of a shop. I hate chain underwear stores!
[...] I flew home and brought a boy with me. This led to some low times (thanks for sticking with me, y’all) but thanks to some amazing friends, I rallied right back. Rough winter! The summer got better, starting with my little sister’s wedding back in NFLD – but then my apartment flooded and I was homeless the rest of the summer…maybe this wrap-up was a bad idea haha. Moving on: [...]
Awesome pictures!!!
give it up sure, your face looks gargeous.
Looks like there’s a ring on your left ring finger.. c’est quoi?
MAEVA! “yes. ok” ha, oh my god, Maeeeeva
